About

David Sirota was founded in March 2023. Before David could read, he learned how to doodle letters, cartoons, and faces. He doodled on every paper. In school, teachers challenged him to stop, but he was compelled. Doodling evolved into sketching, an impulse that he could not resist. David sketched day and night. His simple cartoons became fashion design sketches of countless dresses, shoes, hats, bags, and jewelry.

David believes art and design speak multiple languages, connect through generations, and carry manifold narratives. The most significant influence on his work is Surrealism. He is captivated by artists like Dalí and Magritte. Their intentions to push the boundaries of what constitutes the conscious from the subconscious mind speak to him. They broke away from traditional subject matter and allowed their imaginations to take charge. They paved the way for many creatives like David to be able to operate on illusion and self-expression through color and obscurity.

Fashion and art are intertwined, and one cannot exist without the other. Evolving as an artist, David realized painting was not enough for him. He needed to combine art and fashion to express himself fully. David recalls that many years ago, he stumbled upon a book of Erté fashion designs for Harper’s Bazaar. He began to sketch the ones that caught his eye. Before he knew it, he had sketched every single design in the book. He played with them and added his own variations to the original sketches.

In 2022, David had the opportunity to attend Parsons School of Design in Paris. There, he was immersed in the fashion design process. He had never used a sewing machine before in his life and felt much more comfortable in an artist’s studio working with brushes, paints, and a canvas. But he channeled Elsa Schiaparelli and Salvador Dalí to guide his work and give him creative direction. And The Artist’s Collection was born.

As David continues to create, he mixes hand paint and various textiles such as faux fur and muslin. His designs are provocative and artistic yet elegant and timeless. They have ruffled edges like a raw canvas and are deconstructed just like his artworks. And, of course, up for interpretation as he aims to create enigmas in his pieces. Surrealist and Art Deco elements immensely inspire his design process, whether it may be communicated by the fold, a rupture, an opening, or the color of a garment. Seeing his designs come to life, David says, is like a vision of ecstasy, and his goal is to transport those who wear them to feel the same.

David is committed to proactive designs and excellent craftsmanship. Artwear is his creative direction. Every piece is one-of-a-kind, hand-made, and unique.
